Hello, my name is Sandy and this is my story…
I was born in rural Ohio. We went to a small Church where my uncle was the Pastor. When I was 15, I attended a youth rally in Monroe, MI, where I asked Jesus to save me so that I could have eternal life, in heaven.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
On May 20th 1978, at the age of 19, my faith was tested. A friend of mine was driving me home when a drunk driver ran a red light and hit us broadside. I was thrown from the car and slammed into a fire hydrant, breaking my back in 3 places, and fracturing my collar bone and ankle as well. Pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics revived me. I remained in a coma for 3 days until the swelling on my brain subsided. I was in the hospital for 3 ½ months, in a body cast for 6 weeks, then another 8 weeks of traction. I was told that I may never walk and that I would probably never have children. This was devastating!
My Pastor and my family assured me that God had allowed this for a reason. By the summer of 1979, I was thankfully walking again and back to work. That October, I met my future husband and we were married in May of 1980. Shortly thereafter, I learned that I was going to have a baby. Praise the Lord! In March of 1981, I gave birth to a baby boy.
My life has not been easy, though, as my health started to decline shortly thereafter. At 22, this was the start of a lifelong battle. I’m still living in constant pain and have been hospitalized numerous times due to complications from the accident. Other issues included back surgery, heart surgery, diabetes, cancer, and numerous other surgeries. But, because of Jesus, I’m thankful that one day I’ll be in a new body, in Heaven!
After my accident, this verse became my testimony:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13
I think of this verse every morning when I wake up.
It is God’s grace, mercy, and strength that has carried me through all of this, for which I am truly grateful. As bad as things seemed, they could have been so much worse… Praise God!
Ask yourself, “If I died today, do I know that I would go to Heaven?” If you’re not sure, settle this today. You can know!
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:11-13
From a small town in Ohio, through the pain and sorrow of a fallen world, God has still been good to me!
